Dodgers send:
Blake Snell P
Mariners send:
Lazaro Armenteros OF Kevin Merrell SS Connor Wong C Bruce Rondon P (LAD pay 2018 salary, $4.125m, SEA pays 2019 and 2020 salaries) 2018 Amateur Pick 1.11
For me this continues the process of loading up the minors and cutting salary. I feel I have plenty of up and coming pitching to take Snells place by the time I’m competitive (Honeywell, Buehler, Urias, DeLeon, Zeuch, White, etc.), so saving the money on a long term contract makes sense. It also gives me three pretty decent hitting prospects and a 1st round AMAT pick that can hopefully improve my minor league infield depth. I also think this gives me a little more MiLB depth to use for future trades. Oh, and I get Rondon too, lol.

SEA Accepts. I've been big on Blake Snell for a while, and I believe he will become a front line high K/9 starter that made him one of the top prospects in baseball. He has had some mixed results in his first couple of years but he is still young and I feel he will get better with his command as he gets more MLB experience. His 10.6M a year salary is somewhat high now but he will produce at that value over the length of his deal, and quality SP is hard to come by in this league. As for what I gave up, Lazarito is a nice prospect and was hard to part with but he is only 18 yo and you never know what he will become. The 1st round AMAT is a tough asset to give up. Merrill and Wong are nice prospects but they are still a ways away and they are not a part of my top end of prospects. Overall I'd rather have a up and coming big league pitcher over 4 dart throws. Jon and I went back and forth on this deal, it was a pleasure working with him on the trade, hope it works out for the both of us!

+3 Dodgers. The issue with Snell to me is his walk rate;this results in a high WHIP.If you believe Snell can trim his walk rate down and trim his HR/9, this could be a steal. Those are two big question marks, but Snells' stuff is unquestioned. At 10.6 million a year could be tough if he doesn't develop.
Armentos is really young prospect, I like that he's in the A's system and his power potential. He's the main piece in this trade IMO. He's still just so far away. I don't know what to think about Merell. I didn't really like him coming out of the draft, but his debut was impressive. Then the AMAT pick is a real good pick up for the Dodgers.
For today, I prefer the Dodgers return, but that could change really soon.

I'm not sure which side I like more, so I guess that means it's even. Don't understand why the need to shed short term bad money for a team in a rebuild, you don't get a bonus for having a ton of cap space and acting as a trash bin for bad contracts holds some value. LAD could have gotten more value out of just eating the Rondon's salary, but the trade seems alright considering the cap relief comes in at the end of the contract closer to his window.
