Pirates Trade:
Jason Grilli RP FA $800,000 2018 MiLB Pick 4.02 MiLB Pick 5.02 MiLB Pick 6.02
Phillies Trade:
Matt Barnes RP BOS $600,000 2018
Reasoning: I was looking for a setup man and some small salary cap relief and this was the best of 6 offers I received. Barnes has been a good set man for the Red Sox the last two years nice K rate decent ERA and WHIP and 18-20 holds. and I filled a hole and didn't spend any of my small cap space and got back $200,000. I view the the 4-6 MiLB picks as long shots to make the majors at all or with any impact.

Agreed.
I have a number of targets left in this draft, so if all it costs me is Matt Barnes (whom I like and expected to keep - but it's not like he's in the mix for saves in Boston), I'm happy to take the picks (one of which I just used on Jose Suarez, the primary reason I took the trade).
I can absorb the $200K salary and since Barnes is also a 2018 contract, I saw no reason for me to hold him.

+7 Phillies, 3 picks for a 1 year rental with the talent left seems like an overpay, but I like the remaining talent.

+5 Phillies, I’d rather have the picks than the middle reliever upgrade, but everyone clearly values these remaining picks differently. It could be +5 the other way depending on how much the draft dries up.
