Phillies send: - James McCann, $2.5MM, 2020
- Wilmer Flores, $2.8MM, 2021
- Adbert Alzolay, Minors
Astros send: - Garrett Richards, $7.6MM, 2021-22T
- Hunter Harvey, $600K, 20xx
- Matt Thaiss, Minors
Phillies reasoning: - Richards has ace potential - when healthy, and I've been working on improving my rotation, so I think this plus my other moves should give me a good MLB rotation
- Hunter Harvey has frontline, long term potential but carries injury risk too - I don't like him taking a roster spot but it is what it is
- Matt Thaiss is an on-base machine, and hasn't shown the power he was expected to, but he's still a guy I like to develop into a good 1B option - Pujols and Cron won't be around forever
- I hated to give up Flores but had to evaluate the overall package to concede this works better for my team long term. I'm essentially punting on 3B this season and just hoping Franco isn't a complete dumpster fire
- Oh yeah, and I love that I improved my rotation and only added about $3MM to my overall payroll (and I just saved about $3MM in the Boyd trade)

I accept this trade. - I had a plethora of starting pitchers with a few more guys on the way up. in Martes, Paulino and Mahle. So losing the injury risk of Richards and the long contract was not an issue.
- I've been looking for a corner infielder and with McCann I can move Posey to 1B to save his legs.
- Flores will be a nice piece for me since he will be able to play either CI or MI soon into the season.
- Alzolay is a high upside arm that I am really excited about.
In addition to adding team needs I am also getting some cap room to have for some adds during the season or here in free agency.

+3 Hou, rather have the cheap hitters than past injured pitchers. I do not know much on Thais though.

+10 Phillies, only because I am a believer that Richards has an outside shot to become an ace while healthy. Brenden and I were discussing a Zimmerman for Richards swap and I couldn't pull the trigger, I think this price is quite a bit lower but still more than reasonable. The Phillies are definitely building something here!

+15 Phillies. It looks like to me Phillies are getting the best player and the best prospect possible with Harvey, if he can ever stay healthy. Like the Cubs, I also inquired on Richards and was asked for Devenski and Quantrill. This price seems way lower. At this point, the Phillies have made so many trades I'm not sure how he remembers who is on his team.
