Phillies send: - Maikel Franco, $16.4MM, 2021
- Jacob Barnes, $960K, 2022
- Matt Thaiss, Minors
Twins send: - Jake Lamb, $20.5MM, 2021-22P
- Kevin Smith, Minors
Phillies reasoning: - While Franco is young enough to still iron things out and show a good hit tool to go with power, I prefer to spend $4MM more for a more proven major leaguer - even if last year is the best Lamb can produce, he's shown enough consistency in his young career that I trust he'll be more consistent/stable than Franco over the next 4 seasons
- In Barnes, I'm dealing from an area of strength (bullpen arms)
- Thaiss I would prefer to keep but this deal wasn't getting done without a solid prospect going out, so of the list of guys to get the deal done - Thaiss was the one I'm most comfortable trading away
- Kevin Smith - well, I remember the 90s well and I liked his movies - a bit of a free swinger but the power/speed potential from a middle infielder is worth a gamble for a lower level prospect return

Twins reasoning:
- Not a big Franco fan but I have little to no cap room (this gives me some) and gives me a 3B w/ some stats that Lamb provided (however sketchy he might be at times). The differences between not having Lamb isn't going to move me higher in the standings. Barnes is a nice young, cheap arm who will actually contribute counting stats as an RP while Thaiss is the key to the deal - providing me with a solid prospect (which I really don't have many of at all).
