Cleveland sends
Shohei Ohtani $31 mill 2022-23P($15 mill retained for 2022 only) Collin McHugh $3.5 mill 2022 Carlos Martinez $10.1 mill 2023-24P ($10.1 mill retained for 2022 only)
Toronto sends
Tarik Skubal Vinnie Pasquantino Roansy Contreras 4.22 MiLFA
First I want to apologize to current contenders, as the Jays are going to be a FORCE this year lol. Vladdy, Trout, Sho time, Bichette, and Albies is tough to deal with. This helps me with my time frame of being competitive which I hope begins next year. Im high on all the of the young guys I get. I save some salary. Curtis gets a superstar who arguably just had the best season of all time. McHugh is a great bullpen piece with elite rates. Carmart I think is a great bounceback candidate he gets for free this year.
Thanks for the deal Curtis, good luck.

I think it’s pretty obvious I’m all in for the next couple years. I get one of the best players in baseball and don’t have to cover his whole salary so I can still make a run at a top tier starting pitcher in free agency. It was easy to make this deal! Good luck man.

Even
I think this is a great deal for both teams. The Indians (did you become the Guardians too) get a really solid young SP with upside, a top 1B prospect and a good P prospect. More importantly, they shed salary. Ohtani contract would be up before they are competitive, so they she that, Martinez’s bad contract, and a smaller amount for McHugh. The only real risk on their side is Pasquantino not having a place to play. For my sake, I hope he pushes Pratto to the OF but it’s doubtful. It’s quite obvious what the Blue Jays gain here. They are going all in this year. Interesting though that if Ohtani repeats his stats from last year he will actually decline his player option, leaving the Jays with just Martinez by this time next year. It’s pretty much championship or bust for the Jays, but things are looking good for that to happen.

In agreement Jon, I see it as basically even, with a slight edge to CLE because I think Skubal is gonna break out. Toronto is in a great spot for this season and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a second year out of Ohtani because Ohtani is going to basically have to repeat his insane last season. Keeping Ohtani didn't make a whole lot of sense for Cleveland with his window. Also I hope you keep the Indians name Cody.
