SD Trades: SP Lucas Giolito $4,371,840 2022
CHC Trades: OF Giancarlo Stanton $29,500,000 2022 (Retains $15,251,922)
SD Reasoning: My hitting depth is worse off than my pitching depth, so swapping an SP on a short term deal for an OF on a short term deal is a move I wanted to make. The very specific amount of salary to be retained by CHC will leave me with 1.2 mil in cap space, enough to promote 2 additional players from MiLB this season

+10 cubs, giolito is a nice SP piece. Stanton has a hard time staying healthy and cubs also free up more cap and SD loses more cap!

If Giolitto stays healthy and Stanton doesn't it's a slam dunk for the cubs. If both stay healthy it's +10 cubs because of the salary. Without that it was pretty even.

Agreed. With DeGrom on the shelf and finding myself unwilling to pay up for SPs in free agency this trade fits my needs and came together quickly following Sean's trade block post.

Even. I like this trade for both sides. If money is sitting on the table for San Diego, and both are expiring, it's pretty interesting. I like Giolito( everything I hear his name I think of gelato), and Stanton in NY. We will see with injuries for both teams, but it's fair in my eyes.

Fair analysis guys
A little more context. Matt Brash working himself into the rotation in Seattle, and Leody Taveras not being able to stick in the big leagues are both factors at play here. I can at least replace Giolito with someone that has a realistic chance of contributing, and without Stanton I’d be running 3 OF’s. In a vacuum the $ difference does probably give the edge to CHC, but with the $ implications only being for this year I decided haggling wasn’t worth it. Stanton is a fun player to own when he’s healthy

Even
I’m not the biggest Giolito fan, but Stanton also gets hurt a lot. This one could flip either way I think.
