Cubs send Lewin Diaz, 1B, MIN
Jays send Ryan Zimmerman, $1,800,000 2018-19M
Cubs are gaining a cheap bat for fringe top 100 prospect. I'm sure some of these prospects will be missed in the coming years, but for now I'm pushing for back to back titles - attempting to maximize MLB talent and minimize salary

Toronto accepts the trade. I get a prospect I like who fits my teams time table, I free up a roster spot, and my team gets younger after what may have been Zimmerman's career year. Basically, it was the best offer I got for him.

I'll say Cubs +10, higher if Zimmerman wasn't probably a straight rental. Think the haul for a guy that had Zimmerman's numbers last year (and making his salary) should have been a higher rated prospect or two decent ones.

I do not disagree. Only one other team showed interested, but I would have gained way more salary which I was looking to save. Still have to get used to how players are valued in this league I guess.

+10 Toronto, I like Lewin Diaz as a prospect, and I feel he is a fair price for a rental in Zimmerman. I think Zimmerman last year was a bit of an anomaly, but giving up a solid prospect is the price you pay for Major league production

+20 Cubs
I like Diaz a lot but he's still young and at minimum 2 years away. On top of that, if he doesn't develop 20-homer power, his value is very limited - especially at 1B.
While Zimmerman is older now, he has a long track record of high performance and is still hitting in what should be a potent Nationals lineup for several more years - even when/if Harper leaves in free agency. At less than $2MM, I'll take Zimmerman and a better-than-50/50 chance that he helps now over a kid who just completed his first full season league with good, but not spectacular, results and is far from a unanimous top-100 prospect.
On the flip side of that, it's not terrible if Jays is rebuilding and this was his best offer for a guy he wants to get rid of. I simply wasn't aware, but I might have offered a decent spec for him - I'm potentially overhauling my collection of first basemen.

Yeah in my case it's one of those where you see a guy's available but you don't really ask cause Utility is not as pressing a need as trying to fill my outfield since the team I inherited only had two legit starting ML outfielders in a format where we start four. My general philosophy is try to fill all the position needs first then worry about the Utility slot last.
