Seattle Trades: Chris Davis $22,100,000 2020 ($6,000,000 Retained by SEA for 2018)
Milwaukee Trades: Jason Heyward $8,600,000 20-21T MilFA Draft pick 4.17 MilFA Draft pick 6.17
A couple a reasons for this trade, open up some payroll (7.5 Mill in 18', 13.5 Mill in 19' and 20'), and add a couple of late draft picks. Well im not the biggest fan of Chris Davis, I think he is a good candidate to bounch back. I just didn't want to have to deal with his salary for 3 more years. Jason Heyward is a gamble as well, but he is younger and will only be owed 8.6 a year. Hopefully these two players bounceback. Pleasure doing business with Rob, he made negotiations simple and painless.

I accept! Simply, I like Davis, hate Heyward. Have a great deal of cap room after this season, hope Crash earns it! Great negotiations with Robin, he's a class act

Huh, I really don't get the trade on Milwaukees' end. He's taking on 34 million more in Salary for the term on swap of two guys that aren't really that far in value at the moment and giving up two prospects. Granted they're darts, but he's getting arguably the worse end of the deal as is. I guess he needs a 1B, but yikes. As a bounce back I would prefer Davis I guess. If you're that high on him though and think he has another 2013 or 15 in him, I guess it could justify the contractual obligations. I just would have concerns of the 22 mil over the term as he was one of the more inconsistent players even before 2017.
+ 7.5 SEA for the amount of money he saved this year.

+10 SEA I think they should of been on the hook for more of the salary.... However that's under the assumption that we won't see the Davis of 2 seasons ago again.

+5 Mariners
Both players saw their best years multiple years ago, so it stands to reason that their best days are behind them. Heyward is much younger surrounded by a studly lineup but Crash has inevitable power potential no matter where he plays. I feel like Davis is a high-risk/high-reward guy while Heyward is a moderate-to-high risk/moderate-reward guy. If it seems like I'm leaning Davis, I am - but then there's the money difference and that puts me back at close to even on the players.
While two relatively low MiLBFA picks aren't a big deal, the value in them is that whatever lower end prospect is selected with those picks are guys you like instead of ones inherited (for those of us that took over a team) that may not have been your pick.
Shedding massive salary, getting a usable, affordable player in return, and getting 2 picks makes me favor Seattle's side a bit.
