CHC sends: Oscar De La Cruz, RHP, CHC Ryan O'Hearn, 1B, KC
MIL sends: MiLFA picks 1.17, 2.17, 3.17
CHC reasoning: I've soured on both of these prospects since drafting them a year ago. De La Cruz is best moved to the bullpen due to the variety of injuries he keeps sustaining, and his reminds me of the same path that Carl Edwards Jr. took. O'Hearn was left unprotected and unselected in the real-life MLB Rule 5 draft, so that says a lot. In return I get to save $1.2MM in salary and acquire some lottery tickets, and I am hoping that one of my top 10 available minor league free agents is still there at 1.17 - if so this deal will have been an instant win for me. If not we'll have to see how these picks turn out!

I agree to this trade. Think both of these guys will be a better gamble than those available with the picks I sent for them.

While I do think the middle rounds of the draft have questionable value I'd much rather have 1.17 than either guy Brewers got back. For that alone I'd give Cubs a +10

+15 Brewers
As a Cubs fan, I was saddened to know I could've got Oscar - potentially - for high MiLBFA picks. While many - myself included - question the available talent in the middle rounds on, I do believe there's good talent 20-25 picks deep...otherwise I would've gone +20.
Why so high, though? Fair risk assessment by Curtis, for sure - because Oscar's injury history should concern any fantasy owner. However, many young arms that don't pitch as many competitive innings as American-born players (not that this excludes American-born players) experience arms troubles as they are developed. Not only are they pitching more innings but they're also tweaking mechanics, learning new pitches, adjusting grips/release points, etc. So minor injuries - even if somewhat recurring - aren't huge red flags to me.
CJ Edwards had helium-type prospect momentum due to his awesome numbers. What a lot of people might have missed is that his changeup (although good, when on) never developed into a reliable third pitch as hoped/expected. In addition, his command never improved enough to warrant a serious consideration for MLB starter. In essence, he was always destined for the bullpen unless significant changes happened.
Oscar's a little different - his overall stuff isn't quite as electric as CJ's but still damn good. His change is already a reliable (though still needs more work) third pitch though. And most importantly for me, Oscar's command and control are significantly better than Edwards' control is even up to today as a major league reliever (which is about the same as it was when he was a prospect). I think Oscar's a starter all the way. For these reasons, I think Oscar's worth, roughly, a 1.4-1.7 MiLBFA pick.
O'Hearn's just a guy who could be a major league regular at best but has bust potential written all over him, so a little bit of a lottery ticket himself.

+10 Cubs
Comparing to the players I know available, I might take Cruz in the 2nd round if he was available, and I probably wouldn't touch O'Hearn. They both have limited opportunities. Cruz has upside, I just don't see a scenario where he isn't a reliever. I'd rather have the 2nd and 3rd round picks then both of them let alone the 1st...but (shrug), if he thinks they're garbage then he thinks they're garbage. It's our first MilFA draft and there were some gems missed in the startup drafts. Add in the IFAs and there's solid value in the first two rounds. Anything after that, yeah it's whatever.

De La Cruz is interesting. He has arm issues, but what pitching prospect is perfect? I don't value the picks after the 2nd round much, especially if you don't research much. +5 MIL

Even
O'Hearn is going to get everyday at bats at the MLB level and Oscar profiles with a floor of a decent RP (+fastball). If I'm getting that value for the first three rounds, I think I've done something right.
Cubs needed to free up the roster and got some supplemental picks.
Trade meets both teams needs.

+10 Cubs for me. I like De la cruz as a prospect, but id give him up to dump O'hearn and get 3 lottery tickets in the top half of the draft. I think this draft has more potential then others apparently do. Not so fast on the idea that O'hearn will get ABS in KC, Hosmer is still unsigned and there are a few players they might like more in the ORG for 1B.

+1 Cubs I think I would rather have the picks, but I see it as basically even.
I also applaud Rob for joining up and immediately shaping the Brewers in his own image.
That said, I applaud MIl
