Rays trade: 3B Matt Duffy $8,000,000 2021 Pirates trade: C Francisco Cervelli $8,000,000 2019
My reasoning: I needed a second catcher since Ramos isn’t the most durable starter in the world and didn’t have a lot of cap space to get into a big FA bidding war for the scraps out there. Figured Pirates would be willing to trade one of his three so I traded IF depth (Duffy) that can help him at 3B for C depth and more payroll flexibility long term.

Reasoning: I have three Catchers and two good ones in the minors Kelly and Alfaro. I could use a another 3B for the future with Headley only have one year left. Duffy should be healthy this season and provide not only an backup 3B but also a better bat at DH rather than one of my other catchers. Also both of us without very much cap space the salaries match up well.

+5 Rays
Fills a need for both teams. I think Duffy has a higher offensive profile but that's relative and also highly dependent upon health - not that Cervelli is the epitome of health either. I give Rays the slight edge due to Duffy being a 2021 contract - even if Duffy plays up to his potential, I don't see him being worth $8MM.

+0, seems even to me. Both teams get their needs met. Duffy has more upside and youth on his side, but a longer contract.

+10 Rays, I would rather have Duffy under these circumstances. Good trade
