This post derives from the Offseason FA thread for Garrett Cooper.
I don't believe a player should be available through draft and free agency during the same period (offseason being one period and in-season being another period). My preference is that anyone under rookie limits should only be available during offseason MiLBFA draft and not free agency (offseason only).
Personally, I don't care greatly how Garrett Cooper (or any other player) is classified - it just seems to contradict the idea of having an offseason MiLBFA draft and offseason free agency. I'll admit, I purposefully passed on him during the MiLBFA draft with the expectation that I'd have another shot in-season if/when he gets called up (which I highly believe he will) - but that's the only reason I caught Cooper's situation. Almonte totally slipped by me because I never had a desire to roster/draft him.
I get the side of the argument for FA eligibility since he actually got MLB ABs just last season. So, I propose that if we want a guy like Cooper to be eligible for offseason free agency that any player who see time on a 25-man in the previous season be only eligible for offseason free agency and not the MiLBFA draft.
I'm not a fan of having a mixed player pool for both MiLBFA draft and offseason free agency.

I really don't mind it. I think it adds more strategy. Choosing whether or not to draft the in the MiLBA just adds more thought to it.
I definitely see where your coming from though. I think this will be a good discussion.

I agree with Paul with either one or the other, but not both.

Same, they should have to be taken in the draft during the off season and then, provided they are on a 25 man MLB roster during the regular season then they can be signed during in season free agency.
But that's my take
