Mets trade: - Mitch Moreland, 1B, BOS, $4,700,000 2020
- Luis Valbuena, 1B/3B, LAA, $7,500,000 2019
Red Sox trade:
- Hanley Ramirez, 1B, BOS (for now technically), $19,200,000 2018
- 2018 AMAT pick 1.22
Mets reasoning: I'm far out for this year, so adding another first round pick and looking to the future is something I'm very interested in. I have enough cap to take on Hanley's contract, which expires at the end of this year so it won't clog my cap space going forward. Hanley was recently DFA'd, so who knows how his situation will end up, but I plan on using him if he lands elsewhere.

+5 BOS, they get cheaper and get some insurance. Poor Hanley looses out to Mitch in the mlb, then looses out to him in this league.

Both teams clearly filling needs on different timetables, I give the Mets a +3 cause I like the idea behind it - get a 1st rounder and possibly flip Hanley with retained salary later for more if he winds up starting anywhere else once his real-life contract isn't an issue. Red Sox do get a starting 1B for 2.5 years at a decent salary (though taking Valbuena back mitigates some of that next year), even if Moreland regresses from his career year first half and they clearly needed the cap flexibility as well.

Boston accepts - this trade fills two holes without taking anything away from my current organizational core. I think Moreland is an underrated 1B and is the type of attractively priced complementary player I was looking to acquire. Valbuena is fairly valued and will immediately upgrade CI for this year and next.
While it’s tough to part with a 1st round pick, I’m happy with my current core and any upside late in the 1st round is probably going to need time to develop whereas my team is built to win now.
Thanks to Alex for being very open regarding his needs and for being quick to respond. GL with that pick!

Processed, I put it through a little early (1 hour, still before games start) while I had time to get my roster in order.
