Mariners trade Max Kepler, $13.4 million 2018-2020 (Mariners trade Kepler’s $5.8 million salary relief for 2018 to the Red Sox) Julio Rodriguez, OF Mariners (Minors)
To Red Sox for Craig Kimbrel $16.2 million, 2018-2019, (Red Sox retains $5.8 million of Kimbrel’s 2018 salary)
Kepler has been a long time target for me and Robin and I have been discussing this trade for awhile. At some point, I think Kepler is going to put it all together and become a high OBP power hitter who can add a handful of steals. He’ll definitely help bolster my offense through the end of the year. With Kela, Norris, and now Trivino getting saves, closers were a surplus on my roster.
Rodriguez is a long way away and there’s a lot of risk, but he has a high ceiling so I’m willing to ride it out with him.
Robin - please confirm when you have a chance. Thanks for being a good trade partner!

SEA confirms, I've been in search of one more major bullpen piece for the playoff run, I will get that in Kimbrel. He is under contract for 2019 as well. I am a big fan of Kepler, but he hasn't put it all together yet and the contract is a little steep for the player he is now. Thanks Jason!

0...solid trade on both sides and an interesting swap by two playoff teams.

+5 Seattle - I like this trade from both sides. Seattle gets a stud and Boston gets 2 very high upside guys. I'm not sold on Kepler especially for his contract is why I give Seattle the slight edge.
