Cincinnati Sends: P Jacob DeGrom (NYM) $15,300,000(2021) -4,000,000 Retained by NYM for 2018 OF Tommy Pham (TB) $1,000,000 (2019) Retaining $12,300,000 for 2018
Chicago Sends: RHP Hunter Greene (CIN) RHP Chris Paddack (SDP) C Eric Haase (CLE) LHP Robbie Erlin (SDP) 600,000 2019-2020T
I accept.
I love DeGrom and it was going to take a couple of elite guys back to move him. I'm high on both of these guys and greatly improve my shallow stable of arms in the farm, Paddack just got promoted and looks to be rather close. I've also always been a bit of a fan of Erlin...for some reason, and he looks to be a spot starter in San Diego recently, so he should help bolster my rotation in the mean time. In addition I get Haase who has a ton of power at a premium position. In the end, I feel happy with the return, plus not having to retain salary after this year is a big plus.
Thanks to Curtis for the quick negotiations, good luck in the hunt.

While the pieces in the trade itself seem fair, I don't understand what this trade does for the Reds. A retooling team that thinks it is competitive but unlucky shouldn't be trading an underpriced ace under control beyond this year to their division rival. I feel like the Reds just ensured themselves they won't win the division in 2019 either

Not an easy deal for me to make, but one that I have to do given my team's construction. It's been fun watching Greene and Paddack this season but I think both might be hyped up in terms of future fantasy production. Plus I don't like having too much invested in young pitching since it can often take years to come close to their true peak talent, not to mention the injury risk.
DeGrom immediately becomes my ace, and Pham slots into my outfield as an upgrade over Leury Garcia with upside for more.

Jason nailed it - it also allows me to sleep easier knowing I probably only have to compete with the Pirates this season and next!

Geez and I thought this was gonna be a boring deadline.
I'll say Cubs +15 but it's hard to grade this deal cause like Jason said you bring a whole different element in it making this kind of trade in-division (I might say +10 if they were in different divisions). If you do that, you'd clearly better be rebuliding without a chance to win in the next couple seasons anyway. If Reds weren't rebuilding before they'd better start now. Realistically you're either all-in, standing pat or all-out. If you trade deGrom under control you'd better be all out the next couple seasons, and I'd say that if my Mets did it in real life.
I do think Greene and Paddack are excellent anchors for the deal, Haase is pretty much a lottery ticket who's upside is basically Mike Zunino (if that) and Erlin's more or less back of the roster depth/pen filler. If you use the Chris Archer trade irl as a floor - since he's also signed through 2021 ironically, the Rays also got back two top 50 guys as the headliners but supposedly the PTBNL is a significant asset as well (possibly Swaggerty). I'd have liked at least a third big asset back for the Reds, especially with the in-division factor and with Pham in the deal as well through next year.

Figured it was clear with this trade I was rebuilding now or at least taking a few years off as the two key pieces in the deal will take at least 2 years to start producing.
I didn't think I would be able to get what I wanted for DeGrom and would have been happy with just the Corbin trade otherwise. Price tag was met and rolled with it.

I pretty much echo completely what BOS said
I thought about asking about de grome......but thought "I don't have a prospect close to what it would take, let alone mutliple ones that it would take......guess I was wrong

Maybe if you hadn't traded Martinez for beans at last year's deadline and put me in this mess. Again thought it was clear the rebuild was on, was probably delusional to think I could compete next year even with DeGrom tbh, avg age of my offense is like 32.

Lol that probably comes off harsher then it's meant to be. I added the wink, but now it just looks sarcastic.

I'm not offended.......Khalil Lee (#1 prospect in KC befor the draft) the 1st RD AMAT pick Albertos turned into, ans Smith Jr who just completed another promissing stint in the majors on a rebuilding team and all the players I was able to bring in thanks to the cap space......might be the ones offended by being compared to beans.

+20 CHC. Degrom has some of the most value in the league. Kirilloff and Greene should of been the asking price for me. I'm not the biggest Greene fan, but I understand the upside. Two pitching prospects is very risky.

Woods - my confusion was due to the fact that you said you were looking to reload and not rebuild. That statement implies to me that you’re looking to compete next year.
Misunderstanding on my part
