Cincinnati Sends: Michael Brantley $11,000,000 2020 Billy Hamilton $11,400,000 2019 11,400,000 retained on Hamilton's contract
Chicago Sends: Jose Miranda Drew Ellis Hector Perez
I accept:
I've been trying to get Ellis for what seems like a year, this is the 2nd or 3rd time we've discussed him, so I'm glad to finally aquire him, bunch of power, walks a lot doesn't strike out a ton. I like Miranda's approach as well, even if he doesn't quite have the power upside. There's a lot to like in Perez and his 3 pitch plus mix and an average 4th, still think there's starter upside with the power groundball combination especially if he can reign in his control.
I think it's a fair return considering the lack of interest Brantley has had for the last few years, and this is pretty much peak value for him. Alternatively I'm selling Hambone at his lowest value and with a potential move to the Yanks to be in an outfield rotation his value could have gotten worse, at the same time I didn't want to get nothing for him and would have rather eaten the contract, I feel I was able to get as much as I could even if he had a bounce back.
Thanks Curtis for another trade good luck, maybe one day I'll learn to stop trading in the division.

I agree to this deal. With JD Martinez and Shin-Soo Choo departing my outfield could use a shot in the arm. Brantley should deliver as by our metrics he contributed $22 million of value last season, although mostly as an "accumulator". I don't think that I paid a price where I have to be 100% certain that Brantley will be worth his $11 MM contract for two years, which made the prospect cost palatable for me. Hamilton is DeShields insurance (did I really just write that?) in case I find myself staring at an excess of power (hopefully) and lack of speed (probably) in any given match up.
I do think that Woods is getting two everyday players at some point down the line. Ellis and Miranda have been breakout candidates of mine for the last two seasons as they both have very good plate discipline. If anything holds them back it will be defense, as Ellis is a big guy with inconsistent scouting reports at 3B and I haven't read anything about Miranda being exceptional at 2B which does introduce some risk that he moves to the OF.
Perez could be anything at this point. Big stuff, no command, you know the story with that profile. I don't pretend to know much about pitching stats or mechanics so hopefully Woods got a good one here.

Eh, this is a hard deal to grade for me. I think I would go +4 CHC. Brantley is the key guy of course, he has 22 million upside, but also could be injured for all year. Hit or miss with Brantley.
I like Ellis as a complimentary piece, not a main piece imo. I like his OBP, but he had a .760 OPS in High A at 22. Good walk numbers and has power potential. Jose Miranda, being a Twins fan, I know a little about him. Drafted as a Puerto Rican in the supplemental round B selection. Was really raw at age 18 when drafted and has developed well. Reaching Fort Myers at 20! Needs to still develop and will still take 2- 3 years. Needs to develop power and drafted as a 3rd basemen, needs to accustom to 2nd. He's a hit or miss to be a utility man. Perez ceiling can be a number 3, while his floor is minor league dweller. I would take a chance on him.
Interesting deal overall.
