I've become somewhat wary of having so much money invested into Syndergaard after he's missed time with injuries in each of the last two seasons along with the slowish start with some of his surface numbers (ERA/WHIP up compared to previous years even with the recent shutout). I do believe that Syndergaard's advanced stats point to him rebounding (his FIP and xFIP are good and his BABIP is inflated), but the injury possibility still lurks in the background. With his contract off the books, I can reallocate the that money to better fill out my roster.
Gordon seems like he's gone back to being his old self and is dirt cheap. Last he year he about a $10,000,0000 player and he's been way better to start this year, however this could be his last season, so selling high on him is in the best interest of my team.
As far as the return goes, I'm a big fan of Touki. I hope the Braves keep him as a starter, but even they don't, I think he'll pitch in high leverage relief situations. He's also right on the brink of being in the majors. Isabel smacks a bunch of home runs. I believe in the power even if he also strikes out a lot, but that seems to be the way the league is going these days. The picks improve my draft capital, obviously, and there's a lot of players I like in this draft. Felix isn't what he used to be, I'm taking him on just so I can replace the starts I'll lose from Syndergaard. Kimbrel is the wildcard in this trade, I'm banking on him signing before our trade deadline so I can flip him for more.
Overall, this trade allows me to have more cap flexibility and gives me some future pieces that I like.

This trade is the ultimate buy for my team this year. Syndergaard gives me an Ace that I can pair with with Paxton, Snell, Berrios, and Kikuchi/Lucchesi and create one hell of a rotation to go all in. Gordon is the outfield piece I have been after to fill the void of trading Heyward last offseason. I am all in this year as I feel this compliments a strong roster. This is what it takes to not give up any pieces currently contributing. Touki hurts along with the picks but I fear Touki is destined for the Bullpen and the player I have had my eye on in the first (Hunter Bishop) has played his way into not being available at 1.20. As a die hard M's fan it hurts to part with the King but he is dead weight sadly at this point. I was holding out for Kimbrel to sign and and be a valuable contributor (which I still believe he will), but he helps balance out the Syndergaard salary. Overall I like what this had done for my team for only 6+ million.
