Hold on to your socks, blockbuster time:
DET Trades
SP Justin Verlander $15,400,000 2019
OF Jake Marisnick $1,750,000 2019-20P
P Steven Wright $870,000 2019
TB Trades
SP Taijuan Walker $7,500,000 2021-22P
OF Odubel Herrera $9,900,000 2021 (Rays retain $5m in 2020 and 2021)
SP/RP Josh James $600,000 20xx
AMAT Pick 2.3
MiLB C Mario Feliciano
MiLB SP Juan Then
Rays reasoning: Since I'm still in first atm, definitely vested in going all-in now. Needed another SP for sure, since my rotation has been hanging by a thread all year and Verlander's as good as it gets to that end. Also wanted a little bit of an offensive upgrade and Marisnick is certainly having a better year - albeit with part-time AB's - than Herrera, who's become an expensive Utility player for me. Needed to include Walker and Herrera to balance out the money for this year, and since their contributions going forward are a bit questionable - Walker on the verge of missing the better part of two seasons, Herrera running the risk of falling off in a crowded OF - I had to retain some money on at least one of the deals down the road. Wright is just filler cause Matt's up against the cap almost as much as I am, maybe he'll be about as likely to give me something as Walker anyway in 2019.
As far as the rest, I loosely based it on the Machado deal irl last year in that one top prospect - James though he's actually in the majors now - and other guys with longer-term potential should be included for Verlander. My package is likely a bit better than what the Orioles got tbh lol - especially if Walker and/or Herrera come back to bite me - but I'm also getting Verlander for a little longer in the season, plus a hot Marisnick and some long-term salary relief. It does hurt giving up so many long-term assets (and Feliciano and Then were guys I originally traded for) in a pure rental + payroll trade but you gotta give to get and I'm finally at the point with my farm system where I can bet on myself a little replacing guys.
Best of luck to Matt, pleasure doing business again.
