LAD deals:
1B/2B/OF Derek Dietrich $2,000,000 2021-22P (retains salary for 2019)
AMAT pick 8.5
TB deals:
MiLB OF Everson Periera
MiLB IF Esteury Ruiz
AMAT pick 4.3
Rationale: Cause why not do at least one more deal? I did want another bat for this year to strengthen my lineup but also kind of needed one for future years, since I doubt I'll fill all my lineup vacancies after the season in FA or from within and want to extend my current window through 2020-21. I'm risking buying high on Dietrich - though if he is more of a 25-30 HR guy going foward his price would have only gone up later on - but even if his start is a bit of a fluke, he should still be a useful player certainly as long as he's in Cinci at least, and cost-controlled for at least 2.5 years. Getting out of Miami definitely helped (ask Yelich) and with his versatility it gives me more freedom to fill my lineup other ways this year, and hopefully he can retain his multi-position eligiblity through next season at least.
As far as what I gave up, certainly it's two prospects with high-end talent but in the case of Ruiz I had other middle infielders I either rated higher or were closer to the bigs so I was dealing from a position of strength there. In the case of Periera he's got talent but is definitely far off, and I still kept other guys I rated higher in the outfield as well. Punting down in the draft again was the third asset I gave up, basically one asset for each year of Dietrich's contract I suppose.
Best of luck to you Jon!
