New York sends RP Dellin Betances $18,400,000 2020 3/23/1988 31.4 with Yankees retaining 8 million of next year's salary For Baltimore's 2019 8th 9th and 10th round picks. New York accepts this deal. Reasoning is clearing cap for next year and the Betances being hurt all year long he has been of no help and at his age I don't see him becoming the dominant guy he was prior to the injury. This also gives me a chance to build from within a little more I think a lot of guys can be found in late rounds of the draft if you just do your research. Thanks Jazz for making a deal happen before deadline.

Baltimore accepts. Looking at the free agent market if betances finishes the year healthy a 10 million dollar reliever isn't to outta the question. He's also only 31 so I don't see regression unless injury continues. Rounds 8,9,10 are a crapshoot that may work out in 2-4 years. I'm taking a crapshoot on a guy that I know throws 98+. My window of competing is moving to next year with my cap space and suprise young core.

I'd say +10 for the Yankees, clears a lot of payroll (particularly on this year, though it might not matter with so little time left before the deadline) and get a few lottery tickets back. I get the appeal of Betances for next year and certainly valuewise he'd be worth more than the low-round AMAT picks in a vaccum but feel it gets more than canceled out by absorbing this year's salary and paying $10 million plus for a setup guy next year.
