Confronted with the possibility of not being able to move Hendricks due to his contract this year, and not being able to cash in on DJ for similar reasons, Carter was the only trade partner that had the contracts to make this work out. I'm sending 24.7 M in contract to Washington and taking on 25. Of the contracts Ross has a job as a starter (for now) and Straily holds some value as a guy who may get a starting job at some point next year, so there's some bounce back warm body intrigue there.
The value for me lies in Wentz and Sharp as buy low guys. I've liked Wentz for sometime and his down year and move to Detroit where he'll be given more time to work it out made him a target of mine. I like his off-speed stuff and he's always seemed like a guy who has all the parts just not all at once. I'm a big fan of Sharp's groundball rate, size and willingness to try things. Felt with the injury and lower K rate it was a chance to buy in on a guy I like. Corredor is likely org depth, but I really like his approach so took a flyer. Pick swap was just because I needed to make space for these guys on my roster plus it's fun to inflate the size of the deal.
Thanks to Carter for the smooth negotiations and good luck to him down the stretch.
