Kicking off the trade season once again,
SEA Trades: Yusei Kikuchi $10,000,000 2022 Ryon Healy $10,400,000 21-22P $2,000,000 Paid By NYY Through 2022 Alex Gordon $3,250,000 2020 Donnie Walton
BAL Trades: Carlos Martinez 21,250,000 21-22P BAL pays $2,850,000 of Martinez Salary for 2020
Bringing back the curious case of Carlos Martinez and his terrible contract I signed him to 3 years ago. I am hoping he catches on with another team or continues as a decent closer. I didnt use Kikuchi or Healy all season so the idea is I clear 40 room and give up two bad contracts for one bad contract of a player who can contribute a bit. It was a great run for Alex Gordon on the Mariners as a mid-season pickup who helped all year. I wasnt going to pick up his option for 2020 if I kept him though. Donnie Walton is potentially nice utilityman on a bad team

Baltimore accepts. Carmart is interesting but the way I see it I have so much invested in the bullpen from the previous owner and getting betances that a 21 million dollar closer was worth the possible 4 useable players... One being one of my favorite players.

+5 Seattle
I like this trade for both teams. Martinez is overpriced as a closer, but like Robin said, he wasn’t using the other guys so it’s worth the gamble. I actually like Martinez more if he goes back to starting, but at 21m he would have to be pretty good to earn that money there too. I like it for Baltimore because they have quite a few holes to fill and this fills some. We will have to wait and see how well it fills them, but it’s worth a shot in his situation to get 3, maybe 4 MLB players for a closer. I give the slight edge to the Mariners only since I feel like Martinez still has the most potential of anyone in this trade.

+10 SEA. Only in the best case (spoken from a fellow M's fan) can I see this working out as a win for BAL. Healy and Kikuchi both look like busts relative to these contracts and a top tier closer (like Martinez miiiight be) could earn $20 MM easily. Overall not a terrible deal, but I think BAL could have gotten a prospect in the top 100-150 range instead of Walton
