Yankees sending OF Aaron Judge $3,024,000 2022 And 2019 Milfa picks 4,5,6 For RP Roberto Osuna $14,300,000 2021 OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. $720,000 2023 Great trade I feel! Thanks Robin for the good GM style trade talk. That was fun. Yankees perspective is I get a nice replacement for judge who I actually really like. Judge in my opinion has had one Superstar year and will most likely with his frame continue to battle injuries I think. And he's a Yankee and although that's my team now I hate Yankee's lol. Gurriel will be a great replacement and more our future clubs style of player. And well better to get a solid closer now on a guaranteed contract than try to outbid guys in free agency and wayyy overpaying! All in all super happy with my return for judge especially considering I haven't had time to research super late rounds and am close to full on my minors roster with only a few moves left to make there. Thanks robin good trade!

Blockbuster trade during the draft to get the offseason rolling. I was looking to get some pop in the outfield this offseason and Judge is better than most of the Free Agents in this class. I am concerned about him getting on the field but if he can stay healthy he is a game changer. With three years of control in age 28-30 it was worth the price of Gurriel and Osuna. Both guys are in their prime and really a big part of my team. Gurriel is just beginning to blossom but his lack of on base skills the fact he doesnt have a true defensive home scare me. Osuna is a lights out closer on a good team, but his salary and the fact he only has two years left on his deal made him expendable for me right now. Interesting trade, Thanks Josh

Judge is far and away the best player in this deal. Ozuna is good, but also way more expensive than Judge. Gurriel I have no faith in to repeat or improve upon last year. Seattle cuts salary, gets the best player, and picks up 3 useful picks. To me, it’s a win for the Mariners no matter how you look at it.

Yeah I was gonna give this a +50 at first...the only reason I didn't is because you could maybe justify one extra year of Gurriel plus two years of Osuna making up some of the difference between Gurriel and Judge, but trying to massage that rationale and give up picks on top of it?! I really don't see any way to justify this deal. Even the Judge of the last two years >> Gurriel in power and OBP, and Osuna's solid but relievers are one category assets for the most part. If Judge had been put on the trade block I'd think there would have been a lot of better offers than this.
And yeah Jon makes a good point, getting the best player in the deal AND shedding salary on top of it is a double win on top of just judging player value.

Judge spends a lot of time on the DL, I basically paid a 4,5,6 for osuna with intention of paying for closers in FA as it's a huge weak spot for me and I have a buyout option next year. And to get Gurriel who I really like and will be more reliable I feel in the long run on a cheaper contract and more control to me is a win. Judge is great at hitting bombs if he's on the field but I like my return!

I won't be too redundant and point out what others have already.
Osuna is a solid - not spectacular - closer on an significant contract. Gurriel is a relatively unproven major leaguer that struggles to consistently get on base at any pro level but does have some nice counting numbers. Judge is an OBP monster that's somewhat injury-prone, but still in 2/3 of a season (both '18 and '19) he hits for a .900+ OPS and 27 bombs - making him a huge bargain at his current arb contract with 3 full seasons of control left. Judge's raw numbers coupled with his league-cat ratios are still significant.
Congrats to Robin on a huge haul - both literal and figurative.

Echoing reasons stated above, Judge has the highest potential of all players involved, Mariners shed salary and add a few picks. Paying high premiums for relievers in this league is very risky. Judge is one of the most valuable players in the JBL based solely on potential. A deal where those picks were sent back to NYY would've made more sense and I still would've favored the Judge side of the deal.

I can't dispute the Yank's deal all that much since Josh is much lower on Judge than the rest of the market. However, I will take the opportunity to remind all owners to make use of the trade block ESPECIALLY when considering dealing superstars of Judge's caliber. I'm certain that NYY could have received a larger return on Judge if his availability was well advertised.
