I accept. Its tough to deal Dominguez but ohtani is better and affordable compared to the free agent pitching. My rotation is pretty much set now and I have him through 23. Camargo is hopefully a platoon middle infielder to replace Swanson. You forget how young ohtani is and what he dis as a pitcher. Good luck to the dodgers and Dominguez turns out

Agreed.
Let me first say that I hate to deal Ohtani. I love him as a player and his versatility will be missed. How many other guys can you get a useful season out of during their Tommy John recovery year?
On to my reasons for making this trade. I think hitters and relievers are more valuable in this league than starters. I also have a lot of starters and future starters, while I’m short on quality relievers and hitting. I like Swanson as a filli in hitter at utility or a backup SS since he’s cheap, I only have Kiké for one more year, so Swanson can fill that gap I hope. Britton is a quality reliever and a good source of holds for this year and Betances may be also. These two are in the deal to fill RP slots for me, but also to even up salary for BAL. Camargo isn’t a big loss, unless he gets back to 2018 form. Even if he does, I think I won’t miss him with the addition of Swanson. This trade also gives me a lot of salary flexibility after 2020 that I wouldn’t have had with Ohtani. One more thing, I think I got a good prospect here. My OF minor league depth wasn’t where I need it to be, especially with Robert probably graduating this year, so when BAL inquired on Ohtani, I knew I could only make the deal if Dominguez was included. Will he be a star or will he be a flop? I guess that’s for me to worry about now, but there aren’t too many guys I could have picked up with as high of upside and if I’m dealing Ohtani, I’ve got to get someone with upside and not just salary relief. I made the comment to Jazz that we may not know who won this trade for 5 years.
I’ll be interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on this one.

+10 Orioles
Ohtani is a truly polarizing player that I think all of us are still trying to wrap our heads around after what has been to say the least a strange entrance to the MLB at this point. He comes in trying to prove that he can do what nearly nobody has done before and he has been successful. Needing TJ after year one was not the best case scenario but he proved he was healthy and there shouldnt be much concern he bounces back on the mound. I have always viewed his as a pitcher, but ive been proven wrong and the dude can hit at the top level. The reason I give BAL the edge here is because he is getting a dominant Ace pitcher and an above average hitter in one player. The rule change allowing lineup changes midweek allows Baltimore the power of using Ohtani in both spots in a given week. 30 million on a locked in contract is not as steep as it sounds with what the top tier pitchers will get in this years market. Unloading a couple relievers to balance the books is a win, albiet dominant RP, that is postion of stength for Baltimore and relief pitching isnt a difficult spot to fill during the season. Swanson is a good piece but that is the price to pay when buying a guy like Ohtani. Dominguez can really swing this deal in favor of LA but we all know how risky 16 year olds are. He could boom and be the next Acuna or better, he could bust, we dont know. Thats the fun in it. Overall interesting trade and this is why I love this league. Baltimore shows that are serious with their contending plans in the next couple of years and LA gets good pieces and probably the #1 prospect by the end of 2020 for the future while still staying competitive. Nice deal guys

It's likely a fair value trade with the potential to swing wildly in either direction depending on Ohtani and Dominguez since everyone else in the deal is more or less a known quantity now. Ohtani to me is only worth $30+ million if he's going to be a 25-start near ace pitcher (the ability to slot in midweek as a hitter might up his value some as Robin pointed out but who knows how many weeks it's going to sync up well enough to get a legit contribution at both?). I love the guy, he's one of everyone's favorite players to watch but he's certainly not a $30 million hitter alone. Can he stay healthy pitching for the next 3-4 years after only making ten starts before going out to injury? He'll probably have innings and pitch caps this year too.
I don't know what to think about the fact Dominguez has been traded twice already lol

Im going to say +5 Baltimore solely on the fact that we now know Ohtani is a baseball anomaly, and probably one of the most talented players ever. The double usage of him with the rule change makes him that much more valuable. I think the Mickey Mantle and Mike Trout comparisons for Dominguez are a little much for a 16 year old, but that's the kind of guy you trade Ohtani for lol. Also love the additions of Swanson and the RPs(don't love their salaries). Nice even trade IMO
