Cincinnati Sends:
William Contreras
Nick Allen
Dwanya Williams Sutton
Dan Strailey 5,000,000 2020
Robbie Erlin 600,000 2020
2021 MiLFA 2nd Round Pick
2020 FYPD 6.24 (CHC)
Baltimore Sends:
Steven Matz 14,000,000 2021-22P
Jonathan Loaisiga 600,000 2024
Jake Burger
I accept.
This trade accomplishes a few things for me. I'm able to consolodate some mid-range pieces into possible higher impact risk/reward guys as my minors and 40-man was getting a bit crowded. I also get another possible starter to cobble together into a pitching staff. Matz looks to have a more secure spot in the rotation then most of the other guys other then Paddack he's still youngish and if his slider comes back could be an intriguing post hype pick-up. Loaisiga still has electric stuff but has been injury prone and is the odd man out this year for the rotation but I still think he has a high ceiling if he stays healthy. After losing another season Burger is another guy I feel worth speculating on. I love his approach, his explosive bat speed and his power and if he can come back healthy in 2020 and has a strong showing, he could be a steal.
On the other end I'm moving off pieces where I have depth in the minors. I guess I have a knack for finding cheap catcher prospects (guess as a catcher it's apt) so Contreras has been more expendable with the emergence of Kirk and Herriberto. Nick Allen finally came around last year but it's another case of depth at the position, make up and defense are great so he's almost assured some kind of major league role. The rest is either to balance the trade to everyone's liking or make the numbers work.
Thanks to Jazz for the trade and good luck!
