Phillies send: Howie Kendrick, $1.6MM, 2020 Brewers send: Jordan Humphreys MIL 6th AMAT
Phillies reasoning: - Still building
- Humphreys is a kid I like a lot before TJS, so I'm banking that he can regain form; he may not help much in 2021 even, but if he can land a rotation spot in 2022, that will be a nice bonus
- I really thought I'd keep Howie this season since he's so cheap and I need the infield help but I couldn't really pass up an opportunity to land a prospect that I like plus a pick to mitigate Humphreys' injury risk

Agreed.
Brewers reasoning:
Kendrick gives me a lot of positional flexibility in the IF at a great salary. Granted, it's only for this coming season but that should help bridge a gap I have until some MiLB players are ready. I came into the offseason wanting to add productive bats and this helps me do that at a cheaper cost than some of the guys I've bid on in FA...as long as Kendrick stays on the field.
I was looking forward to watching Humphreys TJ recovery. If that goes well, he should be a solid end of rotation guy. I didn't want to give him or a pick up, but it was worth it for me to get a solid bat and the flexibility that Kendrick should provide.
Thanks Paul.
