Someone forgot to invite Pittsburgh
Cincinnati Sends:
Shed Long 600,000 2024 to Chicago
Chicago Sends:
Jonathan Stiever to Cincinnati
Shervyen Newton to Cincinnati
Dom-Thompson Williams to Cincinnati
2020 FYPD 3.24 to Milwaukee
Milwaukee Sends:
Tyler Wade 600,000 2024 to Cincinnati
Cincinnati accepts.
So Chicago came to me about Long and was willing to pay a little more to get a starting 2B, the value made me want to pull the trigger, but circumstantially I was having diffuclty making the move. Luckily at the same time Milwaukee placed Wade on waivers and it made sense to me to fold him into the deal and move the pick which I viewed as dealing from surplus in order to get a 2B in the back into the system.
This is the 2nd time I've traded Long to Chicago. As for Long and Wade, I feel they're similar in talent, I like them both with maybe a slight edge to Wade but opportunity makes Long the better piece over all. Wade seems to be the super utility piece for the Yankees so while he won't get the same reps as Long a trade or injury could net similar value, as is though he'll get enough reps to be a borderline starter for a borderline team and doesn't change my window or my 2020 outlook too significantly.
Stiever is a cold weather late bloomer whose velo ticked up this year and has 3 solid secondaries though one quite hasn't developed into an out pitch but he's got a 1 in 3 shot to do it. Without the out pitch he looks like a 4, if one of them becomes an out he could be a 2 and will shoot up lists as he's likely just a year out. I'm also able to buy low on Newton. He's got a metric crapton of bat speed, but he's tall and lanky so it comes with a lot of whiff, it's easy to dream on the Upton (without the speed)/Judge upside but as a 3B but there is the nightmare of Brinson stuck at first, So having him paired with Stiever makes the risk worth it. Williams looks like a thumpy 4th OF
Thanks to Curtis and to Mike for the trade, glad we were able to get this together, I do feel this is a net positive for all 3 teams (in the same division smh) good luck to all of us except when we play each other.
