I was asked a question regarding contracts, and wanted to share my answer for all to see:
Will 2020 contracts be honored in 2021 if we do not have a 2020 season? And will all contracts be pushed back a year?
I will follow MLB rulings as much as feasible in determining the implications of the delay to the 2020 season. From what I understand at this point, MLB major league contracts are guaranteed except in the case of national emergency declaration, which has been issued. As long as the MLB does not extend all contracts by some amount we will not extend contracts either. It sounds possible that the MLB could rule not to pay guaranteed major league contracts during the delayed period preceding the eventual opening day - I don't anticipate a decision like this to impact the JBL at all (it's not like we are balancing a budget, our clubs have a fictional $250 MM to spend or lose each season).

Draft News Thankfully we had the MLB "season"'s first year player draft go off without a hitch. Our own 2020 AMAT draft start date will be Monday 8/3 at 0800 EST. The signing deadline for all MLB's drafted players and undrafted free agents is 8/1, so we should have complete clarity over the pool of eligible players when we start our own draft. If enough undrafted free agents are signed by clubs from now until 8/1 we will honor all 10 rounds of the AMAT draft, or continue picking until all eligible players are exhausted.
I'm undecided on if we will have a franchise fill section of the draft. It depends on if MLB clubs universally sign undrafted free agents. If one franchise (say the real-life Red Sox) refuses to make any undrafted free agent signings out of cost-control measures, I don't want our JBL Red Sox to be disadvantaged by this.
The offseason's MiLFA draft will also be delayed to a start date of 1/18/2021, as the deadline for the international signing period has been pushed from 7/2/2020 to 1/15/2021.
We will expand the minor league roster size from 60 players to 80 players effective 8/3 in order to allow for new AMAT and MiLFA signings to be added to rosters without the need to cut players without a 2020 minor league season.

Is this change to 80 on the minor league roster a permanent or temporary change? If temporary, do you have a date when it will drop back to 60?

Is this change to 80 on the minor league roster a permanent or temporary change? If temporary, do you have a date when it will drop back to 60? Honestly I'm not too sure, my initial thought is just to keep it at 80 since the majority sentiment last time we discussed was a preference towards larger rosters and I really don't want to process 24 teams * 20+ roster cuts at some point in the future, lol.

I'm seeing at least 114 undrafted free agents signed per MLB.com's list, so we should have plenty of players available to fill our intended 10 round AMAT draft!

I'm in favor of permanently keeping 80 prospects.

Thanks for expanding MiLB rosters after the AMAT draft. That was my first concern when you announced that we would move forward with the draft.
I don't know if we should continue with a 80 man MiLB roster permanently. If we do so, I wonder if the MiLFA draft will turn into a couple of rounds of international signings, a few breakout players and not much after that. 24 teams * 20 extra players on each team's roster is a lot of guys who won't be available in the MiLFA draft. We may not know the impact on the MiLFA draft for a year or two. However if does have that impact, it seems like the value of MiLFA picks outside of rounds 1 or 2 will be devalued, esp. as opposed to AMAT picks. I'll defer to owners who have been here longer than me for an opinion on that.
If we do drop the minor league rosters back from 80 I think it should be in stages. I can't imagine the mayhem of nearly 500 players being dropped, the work involved for the league managers, or for me to asses who to claim, drop, etc. It would probably feel like a never ending process to walk it back to 60 (or another number?) in stages, but doing it in stages might keep it from being one unmanageable event.

Dont really see any downside in expanding to 80 minors permanently. I'm fearing minor league baseball will be impacted as we know it going forward and MLB teams will be dramatically changing the size of their minor league player pools but until further notice I'm all for expansion
