Mets send: OF Daniel Johnson $600,000 20xx 4th Round 2021 MiLB Draft Pick
Blue Jays send: 1B Albert Pujols $4,000,000 2020
I have 5 possible young players who could get 1B eligibility, but no one that I know can fill that slot on opening day. Smith has clearly fallen behind Pete Alonso on the depth chart, Mountcastle isn't starting the season with the big league team, McMahon may be eligible for 1B at some point but won't be to start the season, the Rays have a ton of corner guys that will limit Lowe's playing time, and Osuna seems more like a bench player than anything. Pujols gives me someone who I can count on to play from the time the season starts. He's also on a short contract and won't block any of the other guys I mentioned if they can manage to win a starting job or end up in a better situation next year.
Daniel Johnson has good tools, but my outfield is crowded for at least 2 years and I think he's a platoon bat at the end of the day. I drafted him in the initial MiLB draft, so it's been fun following his career for the past few years.
@fjciv to confirm

Blue Jays confirm.
Pujols was suppose to be insurance if Muncy, my only 1B eligible player, got hurt. With Vlad moving primarily to 1B, that is no longer the case. Since Pujols is on an expiring deal I just picked up, I had no attachment to him.
Like Alex mentioned, Johnson has good tools and while my OF is crowded, I don't mind taking a chance on a player like that and getting MiLB pick as well.
Thanks for your patience in working with me Alex.

I actually like this deal for both sides. Pujols is what he is these days, but I can also see the reasons NYM want to cover themselves at 1B. Johnson and the 4th round pick are likely to not turn into much, but have a small chance of turning out really well which gives the edge here to TOR.
