Yankee's trade 3B Yu Chang $600,000 20xx OF Billy McKinney $600,000 2024 C Kyle McCann 2019 12/2/1997 For SP Lucas Giolito $1,200,000 2022
Yankees accept. Chang has been high on my radar and has killed it in intersquad games. Losing him might bite me in the ass a little bit but I really needed a young slinger of a pitcher. From what I read McCann could be held up for a bit due to Oakland having a lot of depth at catcher. McKinney is interesting because he only has his one option left so he might force playing time but I'm not high on him at all anyway. I am a Giolito fan and this really helps me contend this year and beyond. The pieces are starting to come together! Thanks White Sox for easy dealing.

I accept... Its is soooo hard trading gioltio.. but i think chang will be one of the best in the league, once the dolans refuse to pay lindor, and i really need an outfielder and mckinney is a young stud.. along with the prospect, thanks to the yanks as well!

I think Chang will be an average position player and I think McKinney is a fourth outfield type. Giolito received Cy Young votes last year. Now, he wasn't close to winning the award, but still. He had a solid ERA with a FIP that backed it up, a great WHIP along with a great K/9. Plus he's on a cheap contract. Is it repeatable? We'll see, but I'd rather bank on someone who has results we've seen in the majors than someone who doesn't yet. The White Sox have been making a lot of win now trades recently and I think this trade goes against that philosophy without much upside for the future.

Very similar to what the Mets said, except I'm a believer.
Word of advice to all owners, especially new owners. If trading a high value player, put them on the block. You never know what kind of offers or interest you may get from other teams. If I knew Gio was available, I would have definitely made an offer.

No offense to the team owners but this looks like a staff ace on a dream contract for two more seasons past this year for spare parts.
If Giolito cost $15MM it'd be a lot closer, maybe +15ish. So the cost savings of a good pitcher without a top prospect return is huge.
I respect we each value prospects differently - hell, major leaguers too. But something should be said for due diligence in at least gauging market value of a big name.
Kudos to Josh for doing his work in going after Giolito.

While I agree with most of what's been said - especially the advertising big names on the trade block part - and the general consensus of this deal and the players in it, in White Sox' defense to an extent I think this was as much a case of zeroing in on a couple of particular prospects he wanted to get based on his comments here and in chat as it was him just taking the first deal offered.
I do feel he would have gotten better in terms of prospects if he offered Giolito around more or win-now help at other position(s), and there was no particular rush for him to trade Giolito since he had long-term control and a cheap salary, but we'll find out in a few years if he was right on the prospects involved I suppose.

In Chicago's defense, he actually asked me what it would take to get Chang. We had other trade talks involving McCann as well. I had been interested in giolito and after seeing what Chang had done in intersquad games just mashing home runs I figured since he is a Indians fan and I wanted giolito and it was a chance to get him. I have made some similar trades where there was a young guy I wanted for sure and sometimes we overpay. Hence my trade with Baltimore for Hayes.

You didn't overpay for Hays.
The way I see it you overpaid way more for Chang in the first place then Luke and were lucky enough to recoup some of that overpay here. That's why I'm sort of w/e on this trade cus I still remember the Adell one, so it really doesn't impact balance too much, just interesting that Chang keeps getting valued so highly.
That being said if Sox see this as a sell high on Giolito it makes sense to get 3 close pieces, I just disagree with his evaluation of those pieces so makes it feel like it's pretty cheap for young controllable pitcher.
