CHC sends: OF Michael Brantley $11,000,000 2020 OF Alex Dickerson $4,700,000 2020-21P SP Tommy Milone $600,000 2020-21T
CWS sends: SP Michael Kopech $600,000 20xx
This is not an easy deal to agree to, but I think that I'm getting the best of the long-term implications considering the bulk of the return is Brantley on a rental deal. That said, Brantley is an absolute stud and I don't have much OF depth to replace him with. I've read enough online speculation regarding Kopech's mental makeup to worry about his MLB career, and his ongoing well-publicized divorce doesn't help put my mind at ease.
The kicker in my mind is that the 2020 season could very well not happen considering the Marlins' current infections. In that case I'll have benefited from this deal even if Kopech tops out as a cost-controlled back-end starter. There's just too much random-ness going on right now for me to be 100% committed to competing this season, instead I'll continue to straddle the line between current and future value.

As an indians fan, Brantley is my guy, and I'm pushing for a world series win this year

Either +40 Cubs or +20 White Sox
If Kopech pans out, this is a huge win for the Cubs. However, there are huge red flags. He has not only had physical ailments, but also anxiety, depression, divorce and opting out of the season, which doesn’t seem to be a prospect going in the right direction. I think in 2 or 3 years we will know who won this trade, but I expect it to end up lopsided either way.

I think Jon captures what I couldn't find the words for in my initial post - it's a trade that I believe exhibits asymmetric risk (evidenced by Jon's +40 CHC / +20 CWS)

+25 Cubs. Not a fan of the getting half a questionable season of Brantley for one of the highest upside arms knocking on the door of the big leagues regardless of the issues he has going on.

+20 cubs or +30 cubs For the upside alone this is a win for Curtis. Even if Kopech turns out mediocre then its still a win to get cap space this year without giving up any controllable peices of your future.(watch this money come in handy if in contention late this year) If Kopech reaches his potential this will be one if those steal of the season deals. Taking advantage (not in a bad way) of a new owner looking to win now I feel gives the advantage to the veteran here. Not that the Sox made a mistake, thats just my opinion of the players involved.
