NYY receive:
SS/3B, Alex Bregman, 14.9M, 2021
2B/ UTL, Garrett Hampson, 600K, 2024
SP, Alex Wood, 4.19M, 21-22P
TEX receive:
SS, Gleyber Torres, 1.944M , 2023
OF, Jake Cave, 600K, 2023
SP/RP, James Kaprielian, PROSPECT
TEX reasoning for doing this trade: UGH, my team is dying this year... Bregman, as much as I like him, his contract is ending next year and my team is sucking major poo this year. I would only have one year with him on my team before he makes 40M a year. Hampson was tough to lose, his utility makes him a major asset at a cheap price, something that isn't around often. He also has upside to be the starting 2B in Colorado for years to come. I worry about him not having everyday at bats this year though. He could potentially be an outcast if he doesn't perform this year. I have an emotional connection with Alex Wood, IDFK why, but his lefty 3/4 slot with a weird pitching motion is in my brain at least 4 hours of my day. IF HE COULD JUST STAY F'ING HEALTHY! Anyways, I might cry, but I'm okay.
Torres is someone I'm willing to bet the next 4 years of my fantasy team in his bounce back this year or next year. I mean, it's only been 11 or 12 games and he's a star in my eyes. If he fails, then I'll fail as well. He's got a longer contract through 2023, so that makes this valuable for me. Cave, I like alot. He's a 4th outfielder, but I know the Twins will either trade him or Rosario at the end of the year, so I feel he has time to be a starter, likely with the Marlins or the Twins. Kap, is injury prone, but has upside and a floor. He will be a reliever if he can't get healthy, but can be a 3 in a rotation if healthy.
This trade reminds me of the best trade I've done trading for Bregman, Tucker, and Perez for Darvish a few years back. Trading a guy with little time left on his contract for upside and stardom.
Good to work with you, Josh. Good luck!
