So, I'm reading about buy-outs in the league constitution. I'm inferring that the intent is to allow some limited relief from a "bad" contract - in my case, for example, Mallex Smith for $4M who is unlikely to crack an MLB roster this year. However, there is nothing explicit in the rule that says the bought-out player is ineligible for the active roster. So I could buy out Paul Goldschmidt at $38.9M, save a lot more money, and still play him at 1B? I don't think that's the intent of the rule, but this is my first full off-season in the league, so I'm just asking.
Thanks! Mark

The bought out player is removed from your roster and becomes a free agent.
