Looks like Fantrax has added a more "modern" alternative to the diminishing quality start. I think I like this as an alternative to the IP category that we switched to 2(?) years ago as we realized QS numbers were on the precipitous decline. Throwing it out for discussion.

Definitely makes sense considering it looks like things are trending in the direction of more and more "openers" where a RP get the start then the bulk guy comes in. I can see in the next few years most teams really only having 3 SP and then work the other 2 rotation spots like that.
5 IP is still a high threshold though..... But meh

I like it. This does three things to improve upon QS. 5 innings and 2 runs now qualifies, 8 or 9 innings with 4 runs qualifies, and outings of 5 innings or more following an opener now qualify. Thumbs up all around for me. I like it better than IP too, since it emphasizes quality instead of just quantity.

Kinda like the IP sta. It's easy and simple and a less competitive staff has a chance to compete in that category more easily. B

Just checked into this on Fantrax. QA3 category is available for Premium (paid) leagues. If we switch to paid league, it comes out to about $5 per person. Not that much, but if keeping the league fee-free is an overriding concern, there's no point discussing the merit of QA3 vs IP.

I like the idea of QA3 a lot.
While 5 may still be high for some bulk guys, it's great for actual starters who don't get the chance to see a lineup a third time through but do enough to keep their team in the game.
If it's a paid-league only feature, not that $5 is that big a deal, I feel like it's not worth changing just for that. So unless there are other platform-related changes we might want to make, it might be a moot point.

I will gladly collect the $5 buy in for the upgraded Fantrax fees if the league votes for it. I will try and sell this in a poll later in the offseason/early pre-season. Not only for QA3 but for the Monday/Friday lineup change option to dampen the effect of mid-week injuries

If we switch to premium, we can each pay Fantrax our share directly. You won't need to collect, but you may need to hound (or replace) the last few holdouts. Speaking from experience.

Well damn, you lure me in with a free league then pull the old switcheroo!?
Jk, I think I can manage $5 if that’s the direction the league decides to go

All - after deliberation I've decided to front the cost for Fantrax Premium this year to enable the following rule changes:
1) Change IP to QA3 as a pitching scoring category (5+ IP with ERA <= 4.5, does not need to be a game started) 2) While I was checking out the custom scoring categories, I made the change from net stolen bases (Successful steals - caught stealing) to a category labelled NSB2 which only counts 50% of caught stealing (Successful steals - 0.5 caught stealing). I had been considering dropping the penalty for CS as steals are an increasingly rare event, but feel like this is the best for minimizing impact to player scoring. 3) Allow roster changes on Mondays and Fridays in a Monday through Sunday scoring week (like we had 2020 when Fantrax Premium was made free for trial/promo purposes)
I will also be exploring the Fantrax Premium features for salaries and contract length as a way to significantly reduce league admin requirements. I find my time able to spend running the league to be in shorter supply by the day, but I think this will help cut down on a huge portion of the offseason and draft upkeep. I ask for your patience and feedback here - you may see me toggling different settings in the next few days to experiment with possibilities (not sure if anything broadcasts notifications)
While I am changing up rules, I will also be making/exploring the following changes (not related to Fantrax Premium):
1) Do away with division impact on playoff influence. The top 4 teams will make the playoffs from each league (AL and NL). I have long felt this to be a far more fair experience as certain divisions are relatively stacked and others (certainly my own NL Central) are relatively weak allowing for little competition and late-season drama. 2) I will be considering playoff expansion and a loser's bracket with draft pick implications for the 2024 season as discussed in the past - more to come
If anybody wants to contribute to the Premium charge ($100/year) feel free to find me on Venmo @curtis-Whittle, but rest assured that your presence and competition in this awesome league is more than enough!

I will have to figure out how the changes affect the way I'm building but I'm sure they are for the better. I do kinda like the wildcard type chance at the playoffs but that's just me. Keeps it more realistic I think. All in all you and the other admins do a great job and I love this league.
