I like the trade to collect 4 top 120 picks in the upcoming draft. Ervin Santana has some trade appeal as the injury bug starts to creep in very soon. Michael Feliz is a young hard throwing RP. Even though it's a long contact he will still be well under 30 by the time it is complete. Dodgers confirm.

Minnesota confirms
Our goal here was to upgrade at SP while creating additional cap space. We achieved both but it did not come cheap. Dodgers were willing to eat a good chunk of Maeda's contract in exchange for picks. Minnesota would like to thank the Dodgers for a great negotiation process!

5. Like this trade a lot for Dodgers. Maeda is a replaceable SP considering his depth there. 4 picks in the top 48 for LA now they should get at least a player or two with some long term appeal out of that. Feliz had some real talent too.

10 - trade favors the Dodgers, feel the deal would have been closer had Feliz not been apart of this deal.

+20 Dodgers. Great return on Maeda, money shouldn't mean much to them in a rebuild, they get 4 picks and on top of that Santana and Feliz is pretty huge. Basically, this comes down to what the Twins paid for the upgrade from Santana to Maeda, and it's a lot... Dodgers come out ahead by quite a bit here.

out of the 4 picks I'd say only the first two are quality picks. Look at any Fantasy baseball magazine and you will see Maeda projected as a top 30 starter, Santana is right around 120.

6. The first round pick is quite a bit of value, I don't think there is much disparity between Maeda and Santana

4. Its a lot to give up for Maeda, but I like him a good bit more than Santana.

3. Trade is fine, just setting the price high to acquire starting pitching.
Did I mention I have a starter on the block?

What's the scale? Can I go higher then 10?
10 Dodgers win this by a mile even if you consider SP's inflated cost. Maeda even for 8 isn't special, especially not in 6 for 1 or even a 5 for 1 if you view Santana as a dump. I wouldn't do it for a 3 for one with the first two picks. Despite the fact that the 5th and 6th round picks are still rather valuable, you'll still have some Braves prospects at that point.
I don't think this is vetoable just because I wouldn't make this trade and in the end specs are still specs, but Maeda is a second year player so it's not as if Twins are getting established value.

5 Ervin Santana had incredible numbers last year and can be a real value chip at the deadline. Maeda, has 1 year in the league, Dodgers got great value in this trade with the picks and Santana.

10. Out of 50 right? Dodgers got great value for Maeda, but I think he's a solid SP and will held Twins rotation in the short term.

10 of 50
If I'm understanding the "$4,500,000 withheld" correctly, then Maeda will be owned $8,600,000 each year by the Twins? If all that is correct then that's good value for Maeda. I'm of the mind that the draft picks throw off the balance of this trade, but if the Twins don't value these picks as highly as I do, then the trade makes more sense.

10/50
Twins get Maeda on a relatively cheap contract for the next three years and he becomes the best pitcher on the team.
Dodgers, who have already announced they want to rebuild, get a serviceable pitcher they might be able to trade later in Santana and essentially 5 lottery tickets. Michael Feliz is young but, outside of K/9, hasn't exactly been special to this point in his career.
I understand why the Twins accepted the trade, but I'd rather get the Dodgers side of the deal because of the possibility of hitting it big in the draft.

+10 Dodgers for me. Feliz is pretty promising, and I would lean towards the picks rather than the difference between Maeda and Santana
