Red Sox get: Eric Thames (with Milwaukee paying his $20,800,000 salary this year) Brewers 1st round pick (1.18) in Amateur Draft
Brewers get: Rafael Devers
Milwaukee accepts. I believe my real competitive window is 2018 and beyond, so Thames is someone that is a better fit for another team. Rather than trade for a lesser prospect while saving money, I opted to eat all of Thames' salary & send my 1st rounder in the amateur draft in order to get Devers, who is a great talent and fits my timeframe.

Interesting. Seems like a lot to give up for a rental, but I'm not super high on fevers anyway so I won t speculate too much. Grade wise +10 Milwaukee just based on controllability.

Huh, strange trade. Don't know if it's fair or not, but it doesn't seem unfair. I agree with the tepidness of Braves on Devers, but he is a top flight spec in Brewers window. Don't know if I give up the first rounder myself, but if he's a motivated seller, it makes sense.
+3 MIL or BOS...not really sure who wins this one, I'm sure someone does.

Accept.
Obviously expecting regression from Thames but still think he can be a very solid hitter. This deal helps me this year and the pick will help replace Devers in my system

This is interesting to me. Devers is a top 20 prospect in my lens. Even if he's not as good as we think, he'll still (maybe) play in Fenway, where he can hit bombs over the Green monster. I really like the power potential of Devers, reminds me of Miguel Sano alot. It's interesting he also traded for Justin Turner earlier, now he trades Thames; wonder what he'll do with Turner if he doesn't think he will contend? On the contrary, the Red Sox already have the 3rd pick in the amateur draft and now will be receiving the 18th as well. This will rebuild his system naturally, and going through the long game with his prospects it looks like. Now Thames, he's bound to regress to the mean and that's probably 30-35 HR's. The question is he actually going to go the mean? It's all opinion and perspective at this point. +4 MIL

Red Sox have three picks in the first round now so I like that. He's adding but not necessarily subtracting. Initially i though Thames was on a multi year deal which confused me. This is a unique attempt by Boston to meet a window and not get crushed long term. It's weird for sure. Kinda like it a lot both sides

Trade processed
Notes: -Each team can only retain $20M per year, so Red Sox will be paying for $800,000 of Thames' salary and Brewers cannot retain anymore salary in 2017. -Thames added to Red Sox 27-Man Roster, so Red Sox need to make appropriate moves so that 27-man roster limit is not exceeded.
