CIN receives: Chad Pinder 2B/MI OAK, Ariel Jurado RHP TEX, Austin Franklin RHP TBR
TEX receives: Adam Duvall OF CIN(10 Mil a year), Jesse Winker OF CIN
The Texas Rangers accept this deal because Pinder was an excess at a position and took from a surplus to address a dire need. I tried to sell high on Jurado and Pinder while the flame is hot. It's not like I don't like Pinder, but he will be getting tough looks in the future in Oakland because of Baretto and Chapman taking 2/3 of the spots he can play. He will probably be their future 2nd baseman; I couldn't take that chance. Jed Lowrie will probably be traded soon, so that will open time for Pinder and his power potential. I really had a tough time trading Austin Franklin seeing he's a pitching prospect in the Rays organization, but I decided it was time to let him go.
The return for me was nice as well. Adam Duvall is having a great year and exceeding expectations via the fangraphs' projections. I don't think last year is an anomaly and he can continue to succeed and hit 25-30 bombs a year. The price is nice seeing a 10 million a year contract isn't terrible for a player of his caliber. I also received Jesse Winker who is an excellent hitter and has average to above average power potential. He will supposedly recieve some time this year, but the OF is kind of crowded in CIN, but they'll make time for hitters.
It was a pleasure doing business with Woods and I hope this trade will help him.

Reds accept... for the record I'm retaining 4.4 Mil of Duvall's contract through 2020.
This trade accomplishes a number of things for me. First I shed about 10 mil in contract, albeit at the cost of one of my better players, however I do have good depth at OF both in the majors and in the minors so it mitigates some of the pain of losing him.
Second I address a position of need, and while I don't expect Pinder to keep doing what he's doing he's still a good source of power at a premium position.
The 3rd thing I did was stock up on two high floor pitchable arms to help bolster the biggest weakness of my team, both guys I'm rather high on and was willing to eat some of Duvall's contract and trade Winnker to get them both.
Was a lot of fun dealing with Joe, made my first trade here smooth and painless.
