Mets trade:
- Yoenis Cespedes (eating $15m in salary this year, $10m in 2018, and $5m in 2019)
Padres trade:
- Anderson Espinoza
- Adrian Morejon
- 3.22 in this year's AMAT draft
I don't think my team is good enough to compete for a championship right now. The first step to start the rebuild was to see if I could get anything for Cespedes. In this deal with the Padres I get a pitcher who has the potential to be an elite starter in Espinoza and a pitcher who projects to be a good 2 or 3 starter in Morejon while also getting a 3rd round pick where I can grab another quality prospect.
