Mets trade: -Jacob deGrom ($4m salary retained in 2018) -6.15 and 8.15 in this year's draft -3rd and 5th rounders in next year's draft
Reds trade: -Luis Valbuena -Nick Senzel -Ariel Jurado -Jaime Barria -Zac Gallen -1st round pick in next year's draft
This trade lands me one of my favorite prospects in Senzel, I think he could develop into a future star at third. Out of the three pitching prospects I landed, Jurado is probably thought most highly of. He's having a bit of a down year, but he was good in prior seasons, so I'm holding out hope that he rebounds. While Barria and Gallen aren't thought of as highly, they are performing well in the minors and improving their stock. I don't think any of these three will ever be as good as deGrom is right now, but maybe I'll get lucky. The first rounder gives me the opportunity to add another highly regarded prospect next year.
I do have to take back Valbuena's contract to make it all work. He hasn't produced this year and is getting paid more than I'd like. Worst case scenario, he continues the low production and I buy him out after next season

Reds Accept
I'm in a weird spot, I have a decent offense, but with some age and it didn't really make sense to sell. I still don't want to full on buy either and I still maintain some minors dept
DeGrom is under 30 and on a team friendly contract, I shed some salary, and pick up a few draft picks. Losing Senzel hurts, and all 3 pitchers have pretty high floors, but I'd trade 3 4th or 5th starters for one consistent 2, besides minor league pitching...what you going to do. In the end, I think this makes my team better for this year and next.
Thanks Mets.

I like this deal for the Reds as I think it makes them far more competitive given the current pitching environment. However I also feel like the prospects given up (especially considering the 1st round pick) were appropriate - but I'm not high on Senzel or Jurado. +10 Reds for me.

+5 Reds. I like de Grom a lot, and his salary is not crazy for a pitcher of his caliber and spans many years. That's why I give it +5, but in a couple years, I could totally seeing this trade evening out or favoring Mets, especially with the real life Mets knack for destroying their pitchers.

+3 Reds. Senzel is one of safest prospects in baseball IMO. I see him as a 3 hitter for 10-15 years and solid defense. Jurado, I don't really like seeing I've traded him already. Then some lottery tickets and Valbuena. DeGrom is a top half 2 or the best 3 in baseball. Totally worth the package for the Reds.

I'd say a +10 for the Reds as well if only cause Darvish got a better return with three legit top prospects going back the other way - albeit Bregman's getting paid as an established player.
