Rays trade: OF Starling Heredia and SP Alex Speas Cubs trade: 3B Matt Davidson
I wasn't looking to trade prospects right off the bat but Davidson gives me a shot at adding cheap, controllable power to my popgun offense at the cost of two low-level minor leaguers. Heredia and Speas are both highly regarded (I'm personally more of a believer in Heredia than Speas), but each very far away from making a ML impact. I'm looking to retool and try to contend next year but have limited cap space so a deal like this helps me while Cubs are looking to improve their farm system and have Bryant at 3B and other corner infield options still on his roster.

Agreed. Davidson's 40% K rate makes him a younger, arguably worse version of Chris Carter. We saw that the Yankees couldn't find a place for Carter and I worry that the Sox will think the same of Davidson. Heredia and Speas are both quite far away but offer the upside I want in my farm system.

0. Davidson has good power but strikeouts a lot. He has potential, but he also has holes in his swing. Speas is a lottery ticket, Heredia, maybe. That's why it's a fair trade, unproven players for lottery tickets.
