ok lets make this thing happen
Seattle Trades
SP Carlos Martinez
SP Andrew Moore
RP Hector Neris
C Jake Rogers
C Omar Narvaez
Baltimore Trades
1B Chris Davis
SP Kevin Gausman
C Chance Sisco
OF/1B Anthony Santander
SS Ryan Mountcastle
SP Keegan Akin
SP Luiz Gohara
2017 AMAT Draft pick 8.11
Baltimore: I feel like this is a basic "sell the farm" to secure the future. I feel like I gave til it hurts, but Seattle has to absorb a dicey contract.

Seattle agrees to the trade. Gausman and Davis help give me a punchers chance this year at the division, but this trade mainly helps my future as I receive 5 solid prospects in my opinion. Carlos Martinez is a tough player to trade, but I feel I have decent pitching depth. This trade greatly increases BAL chances this year. Chuck was a pleasure to do business with, as we bounced around players for a few days until we came to an agreement!

I think Seattle wins this one by a +15, although salaries in a couple of years will bite.
You could make the argument that Davis + Gausman are about equal in value to Martinez, in which case this deal is Baltimore sending Seattle some solid prospects for free. Neris being involved does swing the short-term value towards Baltimore slightly, but those are some big current/former top 100 names in Sisco, Mountcastle, and Gohara to send away.
Still, I get the rationale for both teams and if Baltimore continues as a powerhouse no one will think twice about questioning this move.

It's a 0 for me. Baltimore got the best player in the deal in Carlos Martinez. Worst case scenario for Martinez is that he becomes dead money at $20+ mill, but that could very well be where Chris Davis is as early as next year. Baltimore gave up a lot of young talent, but didn't have to send any "slam dunk" prospects—catchers & pitchers are scary when it comes to translating prospect pedigree to fantasy value. Neris is also a solid get for a contending team.
All that said, Davis is still only 31, and while I honestly think he will fade from fantasy relevance quickly, there's a good chance that I'm wrong and he'll still have some useful years ahead of him. Gausman is an endless source of optimism & disappointment, but it's still possible he could still turn into a reliable starter or good reliever. Seattle did good to get back a large quantity of solid prospects, more opportunities for one of them to break through.
I understand this deal from both sides. It'll be a fun one to watch play out over the next few years.

Honestly Dave, that is a really good analysis of the trade. The frustration of not knowing which Gausman you are going to get is hard to quantify for an O's fan...I view this whole thing as equal based on me giving up an excess category for a category of need.

Personally Gausman was big in this deal for me l, I like the upside and contract. Davis is the one that I'm worried about
